Since 1959, The Grants Pass Active
Club has held Boatnik every Memorial Day weekend in Grants Pass,
Oregon. The activities start Thursday evening in Riverside Park
with the Davis Shows Carnival. Saturday morning is the extremely
popular (most everyone in town attends) Boatnik parade featuring
over 100 local organizations, groups, schools and businesses
including the Rogue Valley Humane Society.
Aside from being tons of fun,
it gives very positive exposure to the our shelter and usually
results in several adoptions. For those who couldn't make it
this year, here are some photos of our largest crew yet - both
people and animals.
And the icing on the cake was
we were voted the winner of the "Animal" division!
To everybody involved - good work!

Although the parade didn't start
until 10 AM, by 8:30 the RVHS float was in the staging area getting
its final prep by our valuable volunteers and employees along
with several board members and of course, the dogs were on hand
and ready to go.
This years theme was
"When the West was Fun" thus the western garb.
The only down side was the long
wait to actually get into the parade. The RVHS was #60 which
meant the float didn't get onto the main route until after 11
AM. Luckly for the animals the day was sunny and bright but not
extremely hot.
Idalis Calvert was among the
volunteers and Murphy decided he would walk her. Like our other
dogs, Murphy is just a sweetheart looking for a new home. Several
people expressed interest in him over the course of the day.
Our Gang
"Hey Mom, is it
time to go yet."?
During the wait shade
and a seat worked just fine.
The walkers and other volunteers
passed out free samples of pet food and RVHS information handouts.
Not all the animals were
in the steet.
